Since the beginning of what is called the "Arab Spring," the official Palestinian Authority daily has been publishing opinion pieces accusing the US and Israel of being behind the civil wars in the Middle East in order to divide and weaken Arab states and strengthen American power. The deaths in the Arab world, including those in Syria following the chemical attack, are presented as actions in line with US policy. The official PA daily wrote today:"Events of mass killings do not upset [America] because they themselves have used killing as a means and a strategy to attain global domination... This is a tyranny and an effort whose goal is to divide every country... Americans aspire to topple the nation states that appeared in the Arab world after WWII."
The threatened US airstrike is likewise being presented as a continuation of the American policy whose goal is, according to the PA daily, "to re-divide the Arab people's nations according to ethnic groups, religion and ethnicity..." Worse yet, the US is being presented by the PA daily as a bloodthirsty imperialist country seeking the death of Arab civilians:"There is nothing in international relations more offensive or painful than the American invasion and the Americans' barbaric behavior... The Americans knew that Assad was destroying Syria and this is what they had hoped for, so they worked to have the massacres and destruction continue."
The PA daily's demonization of the US has been a constant theme for some time. Former editor-in-chief of the official PA daily Hafez Barghouti wrote a few months ago:
"What is happening in Syria is that it is being exhausted, so that its characteristics as a state disappear, until there is an appropriate political party, a friend and outgrowth of the Americans, to take over the government."
A regular columnist in the same daily wrote about the turmoil in Egypt: "What is happening now in Cairo is a warning [sign] for the capabilities of the forces waiting to destabilize Egyptian society, erase its national identity, and turn large sectors of society against the state, as part of a decision that seems similar to the US Intelligence's decision to mobilize tens of thousands of Iranians in the streets of Tehran in order to overthrow Muhammad Mosaddeq's government in the early 1950s."
The turmoil and sectarian unrest in Iraq today is being presented as something the US intended for Iraq and now is imposing on Syria:"After the destruction of Iraq and the actions to divide it, this attempt is now repeating itself in Syria."
This demonization of the US by the official PA daily continues unabated following the announcement last week that the US has pledged an additional $148 million to the PA's general budget. It should be noted that the writers in the PA daily are paid their salaries from this same budget that the US is funding.The following are longer excerpts of these and additional accusations from articles in the official PA daily, claiming that the US and Israel conspire to divide and harm Arab countries and rule over them. In addition, the accusation that the US was behind the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11, is repeated:

"[PA] MP Bassam Al-Salehi, the Secretary General of the People's Party, said that the US and Israel had already planned the military aggression against Syria and other states in the region, and that the American administration's efforts to renew [Palestinian] negotiations [with Israel] at all costs was aimed at hiding this [fact]. In a press release Al-Salehi said that the creation of a false environment of ongoing peace-talks with Israel was aimed at helping to justify Israel's involvement in this (i.e., attack on Syria), together with a number of Arab [parties]."

Another PA daily sees the US involvement as an attempt to bring the Muslim Brotherhood back to rule Egypt:"The anticipated interference of a foreign army into the arena is liable to turn everything upside down in the Middle East, because it not only is intended to upset the internal equilibrium in Syria, but it also bears important messages. The first and most important is aimed at Egypt, since the US and its international and regional allies - Turkey foremost among them - still see the changes occurring there (in Egypt) as something harmful that is a threat to these states' regional interests and schemes.
It is clear that the military interference being led by the US against the Syrian regime is liable to push the entire region into turmoil that will move beyond Syria's borders to the entire region. This [will be done] in an attempt to shuffle the deck and bring about utter chaos, possibly aimed at changing the course of the American schemes in the region, after the great strategic breakthrough achieved by Egypt and which threatens to undermine this strategy."
Comment: These are their words, their behavior, their actions and it all comes from the official leadership-anyone who understands simple truths regarding human behavior knows peace is not possible with these messages delivered every day to its population. Any sociology 101 or psychology 101 student understands this point of view does not relate to peace. Any parent knows you teach your children what peace sounds like and looks like. Wanting peace is NOT enough. Believing t can "just happen" without requisite work over time is stuck in one's ideology not reality!
